Faculty of Science, Eötvös Loránd University, Southern Building
The Institute of Mathematics at Eötvös Loránd University invites applications for a postdoctoral position starting (preferably) on 1st September 2026 (flexible). The position is initially for 1 year, with a possibility to extend for a second year.
Our research group (currently Gergely Zábrádi and 5 PhD students) focuses on \(p\)-adic aspects of number theory, arithmetic geometry, and representation theory. At the Institute of Mathematics we have two more professors working in related areas: Árpád Tóth (modular forms) and Ambrus Pál (arithmetic geometry). We also have strong connections to the research groups Automorphic Forms led by Gergely Harcos and Analytic Number Theory and Representation Theory led by Péter Maga at the HUN-REN Rényi Institute of Mathematics.
Budapest is a vivid city with extensive scientific life. Apart from the institutes mentioned above the recently founded Erdős Center hosts thematic semesters in various areas in mathematics. Accomodation is relatively cheap in Budapest compared to cities in western Europe: you can rent a one-bedroom apartment for 2-300'000HUF (approx. 500-750€) depending on location. Dining out is also somewhat more affordable. The public transport is very efficient, the monthly pass costs 8950HUF (approx. 23€).
